Defend Us against All Adversity

O God,
you see that we do not put our trust in anything we do.
By your power defend us against all adversity;
through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever.

O Lord,
keep your household always faithful to your truth,
that we who rely only on the hope of your heavenly grace
may always be defended by your mighty power;

Prayer for the Twenty-First Sunday after Pentecost

O Lord Jesus Christ,
make us to live sober,
righteous and godly in this present world,
looking for the blessed hope and your glorious appearing,
May we run in the way of your commandments,
and may attain your heavenly promises;
through your mercy,
O our God, you are blessed,
and live and govern all things,
now and forever.
Amen.

“sober” is a reference to 1 Peter 5:8

“in this present world” is a reference to 1 Corinthians 7:31 and Titus 2:12

“blessed hope and your glorious appearing” is a reference to Titus 2:13

“run in the way of your commandments” is a reference to Psalm 119:32

We Praise and Thank Your Divine Goodness
