So Loving, Yet Hated

800px-mathis_gothart_grc3bcnewald_007

O God,
Son of God,
so loving, yet hated,
so patient, yet assaulted to death,
you showed yourself gentle and merciful
even to your persecutors.
You have atoned for our sins
through the wounds of your Passion.
As you humbled yourself and suffered death for us,
now, in your glory,
bestow on us eternal brightness.

Let the Brightness of Your Spirit Illumine Us

O Lord,
let your mercy be upon us,
and let the brightness of your Spirit
illumine our inward souls,
that he may kindle our cold hearts
and enlighten our dark minds;
who abides with you in glory forever.
Amen.

Strength of Those Who Labor, and Rest for Your Saints

O Lord God,
Life of mortals,
Light of the faithful,
Strength of those who labor,
and the Rest for your saints,
give us a peaceful night
free of all trouble,
that after quiet sleep
we may enjoy your blessings
at the return of the light,
and be empowered by your Holy Spirit,
and moved to give you thanks.

Mozarabic Epiphany Prayer

Image result for epiphany star

You, O Lord,
are the Star of truth, who rises out of Jacob,
and the man who rises from Israel.
In the new Star you show yourself as God,
and lying in the crib as God and Man
we confess you to be the one Christ.
In your great mercy
grant us the grace of seeing you,
and show us the radiant sign of your light,
and put all the darkness of our sins to flight,
that we who yearn to see you,
may be refreshed with the enjoyment of that blissful vision. Amen.

New Birth and Freedom in Christ

geertgen_tot_sint_jans2c_the_nativity_at_night2c_c_1490

Almighty God,
grant that the new birth
of your Son in the flesh
redeems us from the old slavery
under the yoke of sin,
so we may receive him with joy
as our Redeemer,
and that when when he comes to judge
we may see Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
forever and ever.
Amen.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God,
you alone heal the wounds of our sins,
and you show constant goodness in the Land of the Living;
Grant that we may serve you faithfully with a quiet mind in this world,
and going forth in your love,
may praise and bless you forever in the world to come;
through your mercy, O our God,
you are blessed,
and live and govern all things,
now and forever.
Amen.
