A New Testament Blessing (1 Thessalonians)

May God our Father himself
and our Lord Jesus
increase your love
and make it overflow for each other
and for all people,
so that he  may establish your hearts
as blameless in holiness
before our God and Father,
when our Lord + Jesus comes
with all his saints.

in the name of the Holy Spirit, who has been poured out into you.

May you depart this day in peace,
and your home be in the heavenly Jerusalem.

A longer version reads thus:

Depart in peace, ransomed soul,
in the name of God the Father almighty who created you,
in the name of Jesus + Christ, the Son of the living God, who redeemed you,
in the name of the Holy Spirit, who sanctified you.

Come now to Mount Zion and the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem,
and to innumerable angels in festal gathering,
and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven.

The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore. (Psalm 121:8) Amen.

A Prayer for God’s Chosen People

O God,
you have made all those who are born again in Christ
to be your chosen people, royal priesthood and holy nation.
Grant us both the will and the power to do what you command,
that your people who are called to eternal life
may have the same faith in their hearts
and the same devotion in their actions;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

May God Almighty direct our days in his peace,
and grant us the gifts of his blessing.
May he deliver us in all our troubles,
