A Pleading of the Passion

Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.

O Savior of the world, by your cross and precious blood you have redeemed us.
Save us and help us, O Lord.

Jesus, you gave your disciples your body about to be broken and your blood about to be shed;
Have mercy on us.

Jesus, in agony of prayer you took the cup of pain;
Have mercy on us.

Jesus, betrayed by a kiss;
Have mercy on us.

Jesus, forsaken by your friends;
Have mercy on us.

Jesus, denied by Peter;
Have mercy on us.

Jesus, when bound before Caiaphas, you confessed yourself the Son of God;
Have mercy on us.

Jesus, blindfolded, struck, and spat on;
Have mercy on us.

Jesus, while your enemies raged with loud voices before the governor, you were silent;
Have mercy on us.

Jesus, whom Herod mocked and arrayed in a magnificent robe;

Jesus, brought forth that all might behold their king;

By your promise to the repentant thief;

By your love to your dear disciple;

By your soul all alone;

By your spirit commended to your Father;

By your death;

From all evil and mischief; from sin, from the crafts and assaults of the devil; from your wrath, and from everlasting damnation;
Good Lord, deliver us.

From all blindness of heart; from pride, arrogance and hypocrisy; from envy, hatred and malice, and all unkindness;
Good Lord, deliver us.

From fornication and all other deadly sin; and from all the deceits of the world, the flesh and the devil;
Good Lord, deliver us.

From avoiding your service, and distrusting your love; from hatred of your cross and scorn of your passion;
Good Lord, deliver us.

Let us confess our sins, saying together :

We confess to God Almighty, 
the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, 
before the whole company of heaven, 
that we have sinned exceedingly in thought, word and deed, 
through our fault, our own fault, our own most grievous fault; 
therefore we pray God to have mercy on us. 

May God Almighty have mercy on us, 
forgive us our sins, 
and bring us to everlasting life. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on you, and forgive you all your sins, deliver you from all evil, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and bring you to eternal life. Amen.

The almighty and merciful Lord grant you pardon, absolution, and forgiveness of all your sins, time for true repentance, and the grace and comfort of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his own blood and made us a kingdom and priests to God his Father—to + him be the glory and the power forever.  (Revelation 1:5-6) Amen.
